Informations

The Republic of China Armed Forces, (ROCAF; Chinese pronunciation: Zhong Hua Min Guo Jun ; pinyin pronunciation: Zhonghua Minguo Guojun), are the armed forces of Republic of China (ROC). They were formerly based on mainland China but currently operate in all of its remaining jurisdictions, which include the islands of Taiwan and Penghu as well as Kinmen and Matsu. It includes the Army, Navy (including Marine Corps), Air Force, and Military Police Force. The Ministry of National Defense is the cabinet-level agency that oversees the military. The military was originally called the National Revolutionary Army (NRA), but it was renamed the Republic of China Armed Forces after the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of China in 1947.

The Chinese National Armed Forces was the historical name of this unit, which existed from 1912 to 1949 before the establishment of the People's Republic of China. The primary mission of the military was to ensure that the ROC retook mainland China from the communist-controlled Peoples Republic of China, (PRC), through campaigns like Project National Glory. The defense of the islands under the control of ROC is the military's primary mission. This is in response to a possible invasion by the Peoples Liberation Army of PRC. This is considered the main threat to the ROC during the ongoing dispute over Taiwan's unclear political status dating back to the Chinese Civil War.
