Informations

The Republic of Singapore's military services, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), are responsible for protecting its national interests and defense. It is a military component of Ministry of Defence and one of the most technologically advanced militaries in Southeast Asia. The SAF has been involved with various operations both inside and outside Singapore's borders since 1965 when it was independent. This includes peacekeeping missions in India, Bangladesh, and disaster relief operations in Indonesia. The SAF has been more involved in counter-terrorism efforts, both at home and abroad, over the past few years. It consists of three branches, the Republic of Singapore Navy, Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), and the Singapore Army.

The SAF plans to add the Digital and Intelligence Service to its ranks in the fourth quarter of 2022, to increase the country's cyberwarfare capabilities. The SAF defends Singapore's interests, sovereignty, and territorial integrity from external threats. The president of Singapore appoints the chief of Defence Force to lead the armed forces. It is capable of mobilizing more than 352,500 reservists (also known by National Servicemen or NSmen) in case of national emergency or full-scale war. There is a large conscript pool in both the active and reserve forces. Each year, about 50,000 reach military age.
