Macas vs Sé

Macas, auch Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Macas, ist eine Stadt im Südosten Ecuadors und hat etwa 30.000 Einwohner. Gegründet wurde die Stadt 1575 von José Villanueva de Maldonado im Auftrag des Gouverneurs von Yaguarzongo, Juan Salinas Loyola. Seit 1929 ist Macas die Hauptstadt der Provinz Morona Santiago.

Die Stadt liegt am Westrand des Amazonasbeckens unmittelbar am Osthang der Anden. Etwa 50 Kilometer nordwestlich liegt der 5230 m hohe Vulkan Sangay mit dem ihn umgebenden Sangay-Nationalpark.
