Lille ([lil] , niederländisch Rijsel, deutsch (historisch): Ryssel) ist eine Großstadt im Norden von Frankreich an der Grenze zu Belgien. Lille ist Präfektur des Départements Nord und Hauptstadt der Region Hauts-de-France. Sie trägt den Beinamen „Hauptstadt von Flandern“ und ist mit 232.787 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Januar 2017) – neben Roubaix, Tourcoing und Villeneuve-d’Ascq – eine Kernstadt des Gemeindeverbandes Métropole Européenne de Lille, der sich aus 85 Gemeinden zusammensetzt und 1,1 Millionen Einwohner zählt.
