Montevideo [mɔnteviˈdeːo, span. mɔnteβiˈðeo] ist die Hauptstadt und Primatstadt Uruguays. Die am Mündungstrichter des Río de la Plata liegende Metropole hat rund 1,3 Mio. Die Economist Intelligence Unit führt Montevideo in Bezug auf die Lebensqualität in ihrer Studie aus dem Jahr 2012 hinter Buenos Aires und Santiago de Chile an dritter Stelle der lateinamerikanischen Städte und auf Position 65 weltweit.
